What is Australian Furntech certification?

When it comes to selecting office furniture, there are a lot of things to consider. A products suitability, durability and sustainability are all important factors, with many products carrying certification labels to signify a products compliance. But what does it all mean?

Here is a quick certification guide for the certifications you will find on our website:

Furntech – AFRDI

The Australasian Furnishing Research &Development Institute (AFRDI) is an independent, not-for-profit, membership-based organisation promoting the production and purchase of sustainable freestanding furniture products.

The AFRDI certification criteria meets a products strength, durability, stability, function, ignitability (where appropriate) andreasonable finish and workmanship.

Suppliers of these products enter into an agreement to advise the institute of any changes (including quality) made to the certified product and must submit products for regular auditing (every 3 years).

An AFRDI Level 6 certification signifies that a chair should be able to withstand extremely severe conditions of use, and will meet most commercial needs.

GECA

Good Environmental Choice Australia (GECA) is a not-for-profit, membership-based organisation promoting environmentally preferable products and services.

GECA is Australia's trusted eco-label – it shows that a product is supporting environmentally preferable production and consumption and meets minimum environmental performance criteria across its life cycle. Products with this label have been manufactured to have very little impact on the environment and will be recycled at the end of its life. The GECA ecolabel is internationally recognized.

GECA certified products also have to be submitted by the supplier regularly for audit.

Global Green Tag

Global GreenTag is internationally recognised as one of the most robust, trusted and widely recognised eco-labels available.

The Global Green Tag label is awarded to products that have been manufactured in the most sustainable way possible. GreenTag certification requires full disclosure of every product ingredient and process, and must be compliant with a number of rigorous environmental standards.

There are different GreenRate levels; A, B and C.

SGS is the world's leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company.

SGS offers comprehensive furniture testing to help assess the safety and durability of a wide range of furniture products. This includes mechanical, chemical, finish, textile, flammability, electrical safety and performance and comparison/fit for use (FFU) testing.

Many of our products have undergone SGS testing to guarantee their suitability, safety and durability.
